Pope Francis' encyclical letter Laudato Si' called for radical action to address climate change and its underlying causes. Since the letter's publication, however, greenhouse gas emissions have continued to rise and sufficiently profound changes to how we live, work and feed the global population have failed to materialise, leading Pope Francis to issue the follow-up exhortation Laudate Deum in 2023. Laudate Deum: A Last Call for the Planet builds upon and is inspired by this seminal work. Ten years on from Laudato Si', it brings together voices from across the world to explore the profound issues highlighted by the late Pope, from the 'technocratic paradigm' that has broken humanity's relationship with the natural world, to the poverty and injustice that the climate crisis itself perpetuates. Above all, this publication illustrates that the time for action is already overtaking us. Laudate Deum really does represent a 'Last Call for the Planet': a last chance to live up to our collective responsibility as human beings to care for God's creation, before it is too late for life as we know it to survive.
