Environmental Policies in India: From Protection to Sustainability, traces the evolution of India's environmental governance from a reactive, protection-oriented approach to a forward-looking sustainability paradigm. The book examines key legislations, institutional frameworks, and policy shifts that have shaped India's environmental trajectory, highlighting the interplay between economic growth and ecological conservation. By situating India's experience within global environmental debates, it offers insights into challenges like climate change, resource depletion, and loss of biodiversity. Blending analytical rigor with accessible narrative, book highlights both achievements and persistent challenges-ranging from regulatory gaps, enforcement deficits to the complexities of balancing growth with ecological integrity. It also explores emerging themes such as circular economy, green taxation, and sustainable development goals, offering fresh insights into the future trajectory of environmental policy making in India. Concise yet comprehensive, this work provides an essential guide for policymakers, researchers, practitioners, civil services aspirants, and curious citizen seeking to navigate and shift toward a more sustainable and resilient future.
