Friedrich Max Müller (6 December 1823 - 28 October 1900) was a German-born philologist and Orientalist, who lived and studied in Britain for most of his life. He translated Hitopadesha in 1847, resulting in the publication of six volumes on the subject. He also translated Kalidasa's Meghaduta. His list of publications includes the History of Ancient Sanskrit Literature and Introduction to The Science of Mythology. He also promoted the idea of a Turanian family of languages.
