Only one man can give her the love and independence she craves. Who is he...

London, England, 1919. The bombs and guns are silent, jazz music, bobbed hair and risque dancing fills the air with gaiety, fun and laughter. But Sophie Romano hears the weeping and chilling silence beneath the trumpets and trombones. The world has changed and so has she.

A strong, intelligent war nurse, Sophie recovers from catastrophic injuries and returns to the Bartley Hospital, a star with expectations of a great nursing career. And, now, when it matters most, she can barely make a decision. Is she losing her mind?

Her fiance, Andrew, anxious to be wed, is unaware a past lover is lurking close by. Sophie's heart is tearing in two, with her career in jeopardy and her sanity in question. Matron gives her two weeks leave and she flees to Lucca, Italy, for solitude and reflection. The visit to her villa, the home where she was born and first fell in love is bitter sweet, complicated by unforgotten love and dangerous memories that seep into her London life.

Jazz, dancing, fun and laughter veils the silenced guns and quiet weeping ... the whole world has changed ...so has Sophie

Reviews for In the Wake of Sophie's War: The guns are silent, the whole world has changed. So has she...

Sophie series reviews samples: Reviewed in Canada on January 11, 2021 The historical detail in this book was wonderful and captivating. Whether Sophie is new to you or you've read about her in The Blue Pendant and Ruins in Silk, she'll immediately steal your heart. She's just such a determined and loveable soul that you want the best for her. The best for anyone doesn't always come during a period of war and this is true for dear Sophie. Jennings creates a rich London and hospital atmosphere where you can almost smell the antiseptic and taste the damp air. I don't want to give any spoilers away but I know you'll fall in love with her as I did. Heart of Sophies War Reviewed in Canada March 2022 Dealing with the men who had been hurt in the war, or the families that suffered after being bombed out, was devastating to see, and be part of. With a brutal amount of work in the hospital, and prevailing illnesses it was an awful time to be a nurse. Sophie was working to get into France to help the injured, she wasn't sure she could handle it. With death of some loved friends all around her, Sophie didn't know where life would lead her next. With all she accomplished and learned Sophie ensured she could endure nursing in the Western Front. This book takes an innocent lady to the brink of her strength and commitment to her nursing career. This is an excellent book, full of emotional highs and lows. 5.0 out of 5 stars GrannyJ Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 11, 2021 Verified Purchase Really enjoyed this book. It is good to see Sophie's life story unfolding. Would recommend reading all the previous stories about Sophie.
