First she gave us the ground-breaking report on teenage suicides with her book Breaking Point: Fighting to End America's Teenage Suicide Epidemic. Now author Dorris S. Woods, Ph.D. RN, CS has again enlightened us on the connection between obesity and diabetes with her latest book entitled How to Prevent Diabetes: I Beat It and You Can Too! Her conversational dialogue throughout the book easily leads you through her winning strategies for fighting the fastest growing health epidemic in our country. Her writing successfully holds your attention on the subject. I would recommend this latest publication as a must-read text for lay persons, looking to do something about this national health crisis and for health professionals and students of the health field. The topic is high on the agenda even of our first lady, Michele Obama. Embrace this book to implement your own personal plan for avoiding this health problem and pass on a copy to a friend or relative as a positive step toward solving this poor health trend. I wholeheartedly endorse this read. - Patricia Shade, Esq. Dr. Woods and I concur that lifestyle changes are important in the treatment and prevention of diabetes.
