Dr. Woods has been on the front line in the fight against diabetes as a clinical nurse specialist for thousands of diabetic patients. It was this experience that triggered the realization that she herself was in danger of becoming a victim of the disease, whose devastating effects include heart attacks, strokes, kidney failure and loss of limbs. She had to lose weight, particularly because she had a family history of diabetes.

Her book is a vivid account of how, after her initial shock, she accomplished that goal. It is also a valuable source of information for understanding diabetes and preventing it, and certainly a must-read for people at risk.

In straightforward style, the author tells how she successfully fought obesity by means of fortitude and self-discipline. The reader will receive valuable information on the following subjects and more:

Reviews for How to Prevent Diabetes: I Beat It and You Can Too! Get Inspired. Get Tested. Get Moving. Get Fit.

First she gave us the ground-breaking report on teenage suicides with her book Breaking Point: Fighting to End America's Teenage Suicide Epidemic. Now author Dorris S. Woods, Ph.D. RN, CS has again enlightened us on the connection between obesity and diabetes with her latest book entitled How to Prevent Diabetes: I Beat It and You Can Too! Her conversational dialogue throughout the book easily leads you through her winning strategies for fighting the fastest growing health epidemic in our country. Her writing successfully holds your attention on the subject. I would recommend this latest publication as a must-read text for lay persons, looking to do something about this national health crisis and for health professionals and students of the health field. The topic is high on the agenda even of our first lady, Michele Obama.
