""This is a wonderful book that will serve as a guide for understanding what ethics from a whole person perspective really means. It is easy to read, informative, and inspiring. I highly recommend the book to all those in the ethics field."" --Harold G. Koenig, MD, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, Duke University Medical Center ""Drawing from his roots in Africa, Dr. Buyondo invites us to envision a world shaped by deep bonds of solidarity, not only between human beings but also between humans and other nonhuman forms of life and realities. We badly need such a fresh vision of global solidarity and scholars, like Jude, who know how to articulate it."" --Emmanuel Katongole, professor of theology and peace studies, University of Notre Dame ""Jude Buyondo presents a profound critique of Western principle-based ethics--not by neglecting its basic values but by broadening the perspective. He convincingly integrates the African experiences and value systems without giving up on the western concept of the dignity and the rights of the individual person. By presenting the relational interconnectedness of all living beings as fundamental basis for any ethic, this important theological study can serve as an eye opener for Western and African ethicists alike."" --Gunter Prueller-Jagenteufel, associate professor of theological ethics, University of Vienna, Austria ""This fascinating book offers a fresh contribution to global bioethics from the perspective of African moral thought. Buyondo skillfully integrates the latest findings of modern science, Western ethical reflection, and African religious and moral life. The concept of the interconnectedness of life grounds his idea of holistic solidarity. Particularly remarkable is the extension of the moral community not only to other living and non-living creatures but also to human ancestors and future generations. A very inspiring and thought-provoking work."" --Roman Globokar, associate professor of theological ethics, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia ""Dr. Buyondo's deep explorations of the worldviews of his Black African ancestors yield a profoundly expansive vision. It offers both an invitation for creative dialogues between diverse cultural systems and potent challenges to the worldview we call 'modern.' His holistic bioethics may provide a therapeutic corrective to the deficiencies of our troubled world; in doing so, this work furthers the development of a truly global culture."" --Neil Theise, professor of pathology, NYU Grossman School of Medicine ""This is a particularly important book for understanding the integrity of human beings and the ethical questions in the field of bioethics in a globalized world. It is about the comparison between African and European thinking. A holistic bioethical perspective. A very readable book."" --Matthias Beck, MD, professor of medical ethics, University of Vienna, Austria
