Dr. Peter Houpt PhD is a plastic surgeon in the Netherlands. His career in the last 35 years was mainly focussed on hand surgery. He was a long-time member of the board of the Dutch society for surgery of the hand. He was a member of the hand trauma committee of the FESSH. Most of his lectures and publications were devoted to hand surgery. Many residents were trained in the domain of hand surgery. Together with his colleagues the largest hand centre of the Netherlands in the Isala clinics, Zwolle was developed. It received formal recognition as a hand trauma centre from the FESSH council. During yearly visits to developing countries one of the goals was treating congenital malformations of the hand. He welcomes the day when hand surgery in itself will be an official speciality in the Netherlands.
