In hoc scripto, Guillelmus de Ockham, celeberrimus doctor nominalista, rationes exponit cur a Curia Avenionensi fugerit et cur papae Ioanni XXII restiterit. Haec epistola ad fratres suos directa non solum est defensio personalis, sed etiam gravis disputatio de paupertate apostolica et de limitibus auctoritatis ecclesiasticae.
Hoc opus maximi momenti est ad intellegendas controversias inter Ordinem Fratrum Minorum et sedem apostolicam. Ockham argumentis subtilibus utitur ad libertatem conscientiae et veritatem evangelicam defendendam contra id quod ipse haeresim papalem vocat. Scriptum est fons primarius pro investigatoribus historiae medii aevi, iuris canonici, et evolutionis idearum politicarum quae ad modernam aetatem ducunt.
Per hanc Epistolam, lector cognoscere potest acrimoniam et profunditatem certaminum intellectualium illius temporis. Est documentum necessarium pro omnibus qui student ""viae modernae"" et muneri quod Ockham in transitione a schola vetere ad novam cogitandi rationem habuit.
