The highly-anticipated sequel to Waterstones Prize-winning and British Book Awards Children's Illustrated Book of the Year Grandad's Camper celebrates the power of community and the importance of LGBTQIA+ history. Milly can't wait to spend a summer at Grandad's cottage by the sea, and is even more excited when she discovers Grandad and Gramps’ Pride flag in the attic. Grandad insists he's too old to go to the London celebrations, especially now Gramps isn’t around any more, but Milly has an idea to get the local community together and bring Pride to Grandad . . . Harry Woodgate (they/them) is an award-winning illustrator, who was shortlisted for the V&A Illustration Awards 2019 and the Folio Society Book Illustration Competition 2018 and 2019. Their debut picture book Grandad's Camper won the Waterstones Children's Book Award and was an ALA Stonewall Honor Book. It was inspired by their university dissertation, which revealed a lack of representation for older LGBT characters in children's books. When they're not creating amazing books, they love writing music, cycling, baking, and exploring independent coffee shops and bookstores. Harry is based in St Albans, UK.

Reviews for Grandad's Pride

"""Beautiful follow-up to Grandad’s Camper, filled with heart and purpose"" * Families, Top Children's Book Picks for 2023 * ""The protagonists of Grandad’s Camper return in this tale of love, identity, and community. Woodgate’s upbeat art brims with color and, aptly, rainbow motifs, depicting a supportive community diverse in race, ability, and self-expression. This is a quiet yet moving read with a powerful message: You don’t need corporate sponsorship or larger-than-life events to celebrate Pride; all you need is love. A winner from beginning to end—and affirmation that Pride belongs in every community"" * Kirkus, starred review * ""In this gladly intergenerational view of Pride, Woodgate offers a familial portrait that twins past and present"" * Publishers Weekly *"
