Ronald Quillo is a retired professor of theology. He has taught at several colleges and universities, most recently at Oblate School of Theology in San Antonio, Texas. His previous books are on contemporary studies of the Bible and prayerful interpretations of the psalms. He has also served longtime as a spiritual director to laity, religious, and clergy.
""This book is not simply one more 'lives of the saints.' The author provides a fresh treatment of a collection of mostly unknown Christians who were both wealthy and holy. The majority are lay people, some of whom enjoyed happy marriages marked by love and service. Many are from nobility or royalty, although some, like the former slave, Pierre Toussaint, came from humble backgrounds to achieve a comfortable and upright life. The book has many similar surprises for those interested in coming to know Christians whose lives down the centuries are still models of behavior for todays' believers."" --Thomas Michel, SJ, Xavier Learning Community, Chiang Rai, Thailand ""Quillo states, 'Charity begins with compassion' to suffer with another. Good and Wealthy aptly presents a series of historical figures who deeply embody this wise perspective."" --Neomi DeAnda, executive director, International Marian Research Institute, University of Dayton ""Rare is the expert who can explain the surprising and complex relationship between wealth and holiness. Ronald Quillo achieves this goal in this interesting and instructive read! Using biographical information of both well-known and obscure holy women and men through history--from Saint Guntram to Margaret of Scotland and Louis IX, among others--Professor Quillo shows clearly that being rich and saintly need not be mutually exclusive."" --Ronald D. Witherup, PSS, former superior general, Society of the Priests of Saint-Sulpice
