First published in 1917 and long out of print, Goldfish Varieties and Tropical Aquarium Fishes is a complete guide to aquaria and related subjects by William T. Innes, former president of the Aquarium Society of Philadelphia. It discusses a wide range of topics, including the freshwater aquarium, goldfish varieties, judging goldfish competitions, the propagation of goldfish, and wholesale breeding. It then offers an alphabetical list of aquarium fishes with their breeding habits and care and a discussion of hardy native freshwater fishes. The book goes on to explain the care of aquaria, terraria, and aqua-terraria; fish foods; the microscope in aquarium work; diseases and their treatment; enemies of aquarium fishes; plants for the aquarium and pond; photographing fishes; construction of aquaria and tanks; and aquarium appliances. Finally, the author lists forty ""don'ts""--things the aquarium owner should never do. His overall aim is to ""to present in simple yet comprehensive form a practical digest of all available information on the subject."" This book includes dozens of original illustrations and is published with the ""green"" technology of print-on-demand using acid-free, archival-quality paper. An essential volume in the library of every goldfish fancier.
