Gold and Silver Nanoparticles: Synthesis and Applications provides detailed information on the preparation and utilization of Au- and Ag-based nanoparticles in a range of novel areas. Gold and silver nanoparticles offer a range of interesting properties, including unique size-dependent optoelectronic properties, chemical stability and biocompatibility, ease of synthesis and surface modification, excellent resistance to corrosion, and catalytic properties, hence paving the way to a wide range of cutting-edge applications with continual advances and innovations. Sections introduce gold and silver nanoparticles, fundamental theory, synthesis, and characterization techniques before focusing on requirements and preparation methods.

Specific applications areas, such as surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS), sensing and biosensing, imaging, drug and gene delivery, disease diagnosis, catalysis, and optoelectronic device fabrication are covered. Finally, synthesis and applications of platinum- and palladium-based nanoparticles are discussed. This is a valuable resource for researchers and advanced students across nanoscience and nanotechnology, chemistry, and materials science, as well as scientists, engineers, and R&D professionals with an interest in noble metal nanomaterials for a range of industrial applications.

Dr. Suban K. Sahoo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry, Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT), in India. He completed his PhD in Chemistry at Punjab Technical University (PTU) in 2008, and was Visiting Professor at the University of Cagliari, Italy, in 2009, and at Kyungpook National University, Daegu, South Korea, in 2019. Dr. Sahoo’s research interests include fluorescence studies of the model compounds, design and development of chemosensors, colorimetric and fluorescent sensors based on nanoparticles and quantum dots (QDs), supramolecular deep cavitand and recognition of small guest molecules, computational chemistry, molecular dynamic simulations and docking, complexation studies of the ligands with various metal ions both by potentiometric and spectrophotometric methods, and synthesis of multidentate ligands and metal complexes. Prof. M. Reza Hormozi-Nezhad is a Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry and Institute for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (INST), at Sharif University of Technology, in Tehran, Iran. Prof. Hormozi-Nezhad’s research interests include sensors and biosensors based on metallic nanoparticles and novel nanomaterials, shape selective synthesis of metallic nanoparticles on semiconductors formed through electroless deposition, shape selective synthesis of Au-nanoparticles by wet chemical methods, evaluation of Au and Ag surface plasmon peak for determination of biological active compounds, investigating shape evolution mechanism of nanomaterials by analysis of spectrophotometric data, and synthesis of metallic nanostructures for surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS).
