Kent Calder is Director of the Reischauer Center for East Asian Studies at Johns Hopkins University/SAIS, where he specializes in International Political Economy and Comparative Urban Politics. His recent research focuses on the rising role of cities in international affairs.
“Throughout history, business, ideas, and influence have flowed from cities that became great as a result of their proximity to major waterways, centers of commerce, and great universities. Kent Calder's latest book explores how these factors, combined with twenty-first-century innovations in the knowledge industry, social media, and finance, are helping key cities around the world to reshape national and international politics.” — James McGann, Founder and Director of the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program, Lauder Institute, University of Pennsylvania
