Thomas Brownell and his wife Ann were of English descent; it is speculated that they came to this country around 1639, after their marriage in 1638. As of 1647, they were settled in Aquidneck, Rhode Island. This settlement was the home of ""a little group of men and women who had been driven out of Boston, Mass., because, Hutchinson and Mrs. Hutchinson had seduced them into dangerous errors.""
