""The book From Epic Tales to Digital Trails: Understanding New Mediascapes in Activism provides a very useful overview of the use of how the current digital world provides an important platform for activism by using social media from Facebook to X to Instagram and beyond but can also be used to harm activists and democracy as well. It provides an important perspective on how the management of technology can be used to either help or harm democratic values and highlights the need for ethical and inclusive guidelines in their use."" - Victor Asal, Phd, Director of the Center for Policy Research, Professor of Political Science, Rockefeller College, University at Albany, SUNY. ""The edited volume From Epic Tales to Digital Trails: Understanding New Mediascapes in Activism is an important book that highlights the challenging applications of technology through the lens of access and accountability. By looking at how ICT, particularly social media technologies, can organize activists and broaden their reach by sharing new, alternative narratives across the media frontier, this volume explores critical areas of social movement mobilization and activism. The willingness to engage in the careful analysis of the benefits and pitfalls of ICT in this turbulent time makes it more compelling."" - Joseph W. Roberts, Ph.D., Chair and Professor of Politics and International Relations, Roger Williams University, Department of Politics and International Relations. ""It is a truism that technology can be used for both good and evil, while the human and institutional factors behind a technology are decisive in shaping its uses. How specifically a given technology is used; for instance, to foster democracy or to foster authoritarianism, is the real question, which requires a well-informed and detailed investigation. Professor Nalanda Roy’s edited volume entitled From Epic Tales to Digital Trails: Understanding New Mediascapes in Activism by Routledge is precisely such a needed and timely investigation of questions that development of new digital technologies pose. Specifically, the volume, through various case studies of digital technology uses in fostering translational activism, shaping of online narratives, and creating of digital communities provides the readers with mostly positive examples of new technology applications, and with specific ideas of how new technologies can be used for good. Highly recommended."" - Jacek Lubecki, Professor of Political Science and International Studies, Georgia Southern University
