Edwin Pugh was a professor and consultant in palliative medicine. He also has a longstanding ongoing involvement with Cambodia. This began as a charity worker living and working with Khmer refugees on the Thai-Cambodia border 1990-1991. He continues to be actively involved in charity work in Cambodia through two charities. He is a patron of a medical charity Transform Healthcare Cambodia (www.transformhealthcarecambodia.org) and a board member of Transform Asia (www.transformasia.us). In his work with dying patients and their families, and with refugees, Edwin became acutely aware that they have much in common as they face hardships, suffering and the stark reality of dying. They question their mortality, reason for suffering, values, worth, purpose and inevitably their understanding of 'God' - or no God. Edwin's professional life was coloured by these profound experiences and he developed a specialist interest in spirituality, speaking and publishing on this issue.
