Hellraiser is a term often used to describe Errol Flynn, but if even a third of that recounted in David Bret's biography is true, then the word is totally inadequate for a man whose pursuit of pleasure in all its forms, was determined and unremitting to the point of obsession. To say this is a warts and all portrayal of the Hollywood star would be wrong, for this version of his life is warts and little else. All in all Flynn doesn't come across as a very nice man but it seems he had two saving graces, he was fun to be with (if you could stand the pace) and he was completely unrepentant about the way he lived, 'living hard and dying young-ish'. One is left with the impression that gratification when pushed to this level is hardly fun, more like a chore to be dealt with and endured. (Kirkus UK)
