Seas and oceans are sources of jobs and food, as well as underpinning economic growth. They help regulate the climate and contribute to the well-being of coastal communities.
Many people around the world, especially the poorest, depend on healthy oceans for work and food. It is now more than ever necessary to exploit sparingly, manage and protect sustainably this natural resource that we thought was inexhaustible. According to the OECD, the oceans provide the global economy with an added value of almost 1,500 billion dollars every year.
The health of oceans, coasts and freshwater ecosystems is fundamental to economic development and food production, but it is also vital in the fight against global warming.
The productivity of maritime spaces is therefore a significant source of profit via the blue economy, a vector for the development of our States, on the sole condition that these spaces are managed sparingly, without mortgaging the heritage of future generations.
