This short book celebrates the first ten years of North Wales Recovery Communities (NWRC), a unique and inspiring initiative based in Bangor, North Wales, that is successfully helping people recover from serious substance use problems and related issues. The success of NWRC rests on the foundation of people in recovery helping others overcome their addiction. The book contains a number of Recovery Stories that show people can conquer the most serious of adversities, and highlights key factors that facilitate recovery from addiction.
The activities offered to residents of NWRC's Penrhyn House and local community members include a wide range of mutual aid and other support groups, as well as a variety of health-related, fitness, and social experiences. The book describes the various ways that NWRC has 'given back' to the local community, which includes having run an ethically, environmentally sustainable café/restaurant, and growing and selling organic produce at affordable prices. NWRC also provided food to local residents in need of help during the Covid epidemic when national and local governments were unable to do so.
NWRC has created a ripple effect of recovery in North Wales and shows how we can help people 'Transform Pain Into Power'.
