Ernest M. Snowden, a 1970 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and former naval aviator, served in the Naval Reserve as an aeronautical engineering duty officer until retiring in 2000. As a Navy civilian, he held roles such as business manager for the Maintenance Policy Division of the Naval Air Systems Command and staff assistant to the Deputy Director for Research and Engineering in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Snowden later worked in marketing and strategy for aerospace and defense firms. He is the author of Winged Brothers, Maritime Unmanned, and the F4U Corsair Naval History Special Edition, all published by the Naval Institute Press. He lives in McLean, Virginia.
“Snowden's thorough research, pictures, sea stories, historical data and some of the F-8's special missions are so descriptive, detailed and realistic that I feel we could be in the cockpit flying these specific missions. It is most interesting in every respect. His selection of contents and accurate coverage gets the pulse going from the get-go and the palms sweaty again. If only we could go back in time to our respective F8 era to feel those exhilarating highs and exciting tactical, A/A gunnery dets and Vietnam missions to mention a few.”—Captain Bill “Striker” Switzer, USN (Ret.), Former F-8 Driver and Blue Angel
