Reviews for Expanding Energy: The Dynamic Story of Christianity in North America

"""The complex mosaic of North American Christianity is faithfully represented in this volume with chapters on indigenous, slave, and Roman Catholic religion, on women, doubt, and the social gospel, on Protestant developments from the foundation through revival, dispensationalism, and Pentecostalism to contemporary Evangelicalism and on the less churched West Coast, the distinctive church life of Texas, and the refugees of Houston in that state. There is something for everyone here!"" --David Bebbington, professor emeritus of history, University of Stirling ""Too often the study of world Christianity has been confined to the Global South, leaving Europe and North America out of the picture. This volume is a welcomed correction to that tendency. Bringing the methods of the study of world Christianity to bear upon North America, it sheds light upon the rich diversity of experiences across the continent while finding connections across boundaries and identities."" --Dale T. Irvin, professor of world Christianity, New School of Biblical Theology ""This collection of essays demonstrates how different North American Christianity, and especially that of the United States, is from that in the other continents. It makes a useful contribution to our understanding of North America's role in creating the diverse nature of contemporary world Christianity."" --Allan H. Anderson, professor emeritus of mission and Pentecostal studies, University of Birmingham, UK ""The volume masterfully weaves together the untold stories of indigenous Christianities, the resilient black Christian traditions, and the transformative Christian experiences of migrants and refugees. This captivating exploration goes beyond the familiar, revealing the intricate threads that have shaped the continent's spiritual landscape. The reader will discover a rich narrative that celebrates the myriad expressions of faith, making it an essential read for those eager to delve into the dynamic and multifaceted story of Christianity in North America."" --Felix Wilfred, professor emeritus of Christian studies, State University of Madras"
