Originally published in 1937, 'this book is intended to supply under one cover a fairly comprehensive set of examples for the use of engineering students in the early part of their training'. The majority of the questions have been taken from examination papers from various sources, such as the Oxford and Cambridge Schools Examination Board. The examples are vast in scope, reflecting the subject's relationship with numerous other disciplines, as well as assorted and with no grouping so as not to hint at a specific approach. Notably, the more advanced questions have been marked with an asterisk and questions on applied mathematics have been included, but purposefully not extended upon, due to their prevalence in school textbooks at the time. This practical textbook will be of great value to students of engineering as well as to anyone with an interest in mathematics, physics and the history of education.
