Parkinson's disease, a debilitating neurodegenerative condition primarily affecting motor function, challenges both clinicians and researchers. From its initial recognition marked by rigidity and tremor to the triumphs of modern therapeutic innovations, the journey of Parkinson's disease treatment demonstrates years of scientific breakthroughs and clinical resilience. The increased understanding of Parkinson's diseases pathophysiology shapes the development of neuroprotective and disease-modifying therapies. As novel molecular and cellular therapies emerge, the trajectory from tremors to triumph underscores a future where Parkinson's disease may be effectively managed or even cured. Evolution and Innovation in Parkinson's Disease Therapies in Under-Resourced Settings explores the historical evolution of Parkinson's disease therapies, to the emergence of advanced strategies including deep brain stimulation, gene therapy, and precision medicine approaches. It examines the role of interdisciplinary research and technological innovations in transforming patient care. This book covers topics such as molecular therapies, herbal medicine, and pathophysiology, and is a useful resource for medical and healthcare professionals, academicians, researchers, and scientists.

Abraham Olufemi Asuku is a Ph.D. holder in neurophysiology in the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria. He obtained his first degree (B.Sc.) and master’s degree (M.Sc.) from the same department. Dr. Asuku is a passionate neuroscientist and medical biotechnologist. He currently works with the National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency, Nigeria, as an Assistant Chief Research Officer. His area of interest is on mitigation of neurotoxicity, neurodegenerative diseases, and neurodevelopmental disorders by phytochemicals, and also on the applications of nanotechnology for neurodegenerative disease drug delivery. He is a member of the Neuroscience Society of Nigeria, the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society, USA, the Physiological Society, United Kingdom. He is an award-winning researcher and has over 60 publications (More than 30 are Scopus-based), including book chapters, research and review articles of good international repute. He has served as a reviewer for many reputable journals. Dr Asuku was ranked by SCIVAL among the Top 500 authors, by Scholarly Output from 2022 to 2025 in Neuroscience as number 21 and 93 in Nigeria and Africa respectively. He has also presented seminars at many conferences, both locally and internationally. He was one of the invited guest speakers at the VII International Conference of Universidad Tecnica De Manabi, Ecuador, in 2023. Dr. Asuku was an editor of the book titled Non-pharmacological Intervention for Dementia: A Comprehensive Approach, and he is currently editing other book, Bioresources for Managing and Treating Dementiato be published by CRC Taylor and Francis Publisher. His long-term goal is to discover therapeutic targets and help create focused treatments for neurodegenerative diseases. By bridging the gap between basic and translational neuroscience, he seeks to further knowledge of neuronal health and provide insights that may result in novel treatments. Dr Olugbemi Tope Olaniyan had his B.Sc. Hons (Ilorin), M.Sc., and Ph.D. (Ibadan) all in Physiology, Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) (Nigeria), Certificate in Clinical Embryology & Assisted Reproductive Medicine from India, and Postdoctoral Research Fellowship from Universidad de Granada, Spain. He is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Physiology,Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Kwara State University, Malete, Nigeria.
