Roger Shawyer is a British Chartered Electrical Engineer with 50 years of experience in the Space and Defence industries. He is the inventor of the EmDrive propulsion technology, and for the last 21 years, he has been the director of a small R&D company, Satellite Propulsion Research Ltd. (SPR). In 1981, Roger moved into the Space Industry, taking up a position as a Principal Engineer with Marconi Space and Defence Systems Ltd. He gained extensive project management experience as the Payload Project Manager on four Eutelsat, high-power TV Broadcast Satellites. Another major programme was the Galileo European navigation satellite system, for which Roger was Technical Manager, responsible for the early design and development of the signal structure and payload equipment. In 2001, Roger left to set up SPR Ltd. and carry out initial EmDrive Research with 5 years of UK government funding. In 2008, Roger was elected a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.
“Shawyer gives an insider’s view on the gestation and development of EmDrive technology over the decades and a thorough account of the underlying theory of operation. A unique addition to the literature on propellentless drives. This book is an important one in terms of making the case for why such drives deserve to be explored and their potential to contribute not just to the current satellite industry, but to the future of space exploration and space travel.” - David Hambling, Journalist, Forbes, WIRED
