One of the most exhilarating periods in film history began with ""Easy Rider"" in 1969 and ended with ""Raging Bull"" in 1980, with Beverly Hills shrouded under a blanket of cocaine: at least, that's how it seemed. Based on interviews with all the Hollywood players of the time, this text tells the story of creativity and excess in Hollywood, when Coppola, Bogdanovich, Scorsese, Lucas, Hopper, Altman and Spielberg were at the height of their powers. Recounted with refreshing candour, many celebrities talk frankly to the author about one another and the sex, drugs, and money that made so many of them crash and burn.

Reviews for Easy Riders, Raging Bulls

In the late 1960s, Hollywood was still trying to maintain the studio system of the '40s and '50s, but in the real world things were changing and eventually even the ingrained old guard had to go, overthrown by the young Turks. It all started with Easy Rider, a film still after 30 years subject to much contention about who wrote what, and for the next years some of the finest American movies of all time were produced. But too much easy sex, money and drugs destroyed much of the young talent of that time, leaving us with the big-budget, cynical action films that fill the cinemas now. (Kirkus UK)
