Marco G. Patti, MD, is an internationally known gastrointestinal surgeon and expert in the surgical treatment of esophageal disorders, including gastroesophageal reflux disease, achalasia and esophageal cancer. Dr. Patti has published more than 300 journal articles and book chapters on esophageal surgery and minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgery. He serves on the editorial boards of Annals of Surgery, World Journal of Gastroenterology, Diseases of the Esophagus, Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery and World Journal of Surgery. Dr. Patti has given more than 270 presentations at universities and scientific meetings worldwide. He has also served as a visiting professor at several prominent universities in Italy, Canada, China and the United States. Dr. Patti is past president of the International Society of Digestive Surgery, the International Society of Surgery, the World Congress of Surgery and is currently the Chair of the International Society of Surgery Foundation. Francisco Schlottmann is a board-certified general surgeon who focuses his practice in esophageal and gastric diseases. Dr. Schlottmann received his medical degree with honors at the University of Buenos Aires Medical School in Argentina and completed his general surgery training at the Hospital Alemán of Buenos Aires. With a research focus on esophageal cancer, Dr. Schlottmann completed the Soudavar fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, followed by a 2-year gastrointestinal surgery fellowship at the University of North Carolina. His research in esophageal diseases is reflected in numerous publications and books. He currently serves as an Associate Professor at the Hospital Alemán of Buenos Aires. Dr. Fernando A.M. Herbella is an Affiliate Professor at the Department of Surgery, Federal University of São Paulo, Brazil, where he obtained his MD, residency training in general and GI surgery, MSc and Doctor Degrees. He is a fellow of the Brazilian College of Digestive Surgery and a Member of the International Society for Surgery and the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary tract. Dr. Herbella’s primary research focus is on surgery and physiology of the esophagus. He has published more than 215 publications and 60 book chapters.
