In the intricate tapestry of life, each thread represents a unique journey, weaving together stories of resilience and growth. My own narrative, though not adorned with the grandiosity of some, is one of quiet introspection and unwavering determination. I arrived into this world as Jumel Pluviose in 1963, in Port-Margot, Haiti, a place steeped in the vibrant hues of history. Nurtured within a cocoon of love by my family and community, I was imbued with a sense of possibility and a fervent desire to uplift those around me. Completing my high school education in Haiti was a cherished milestone, one my parents fervently hoped for, believing it would illuminate a path towards a brighter future. Faced with the intricate dance of Haitian politics, I sought opportunities beyond the horizon, driven by a hunger for survival and knowledge. In 1997, I earned a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from Florida International University, embarking on a quest to unravel the intricacies of the American healthcare system and human behavior. This pursuit of knowledge led me to further academic endeavors, culminating in a Master's degree in Health Informatics and System Management from the same institution in 2014. My upbringing in Haiti, marked by staggering illiteracy rates and pervasive poverty, ignited within me an unyielding determination to effect change. In 2003, I laid the cornerstone of the TOLYCare foundation (Treat Others Like You Care), dedicated to enlightening both adults and children alike. As a nurse, I became impassioned about combatting the rising tide of obesity, diabetes, and hypertension within the Haitian community in South Florida. Hosting an educational talk show on WLQY 1320 AM for three years provided a platform to disseminate knowledge and raise awareness. In 2017, I orchestrated TOLYCARE's first medical mission trip to Haiti, rallying a team of compassionate healthcare professionals to provide solace and comfort to those in dire need. However, our endeavors were thwarted first by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and later by the pernicious influence of gang violence gripping Haiti. Navigating the intricate labyrinth of society, I cultivated a profound understanding of the delicate interplay between power and ideology. Amidst the clamor of divisive rhetoric and partisan discord, I found solace in the role of the quiet observer, offering nuanced perspectives amidst the cacophony. Through YouTube videos in both English and Haitian Creole, I have endeavored to share insights and foster informed dialogue, with a recent foray into the intricacies of American politics over the past decades. My aim has always been to empower others to engage thoughtfully with the world around them, empowering Haitians towards a brighter destiny. As I reflect on the chapters of my journey thus far, I am reminded of the profound impact even the quietest voices can wield. With an unwavering commitment to reality checks and goodwill, I aspire to share my thoughts, reflections, and analyses. I believe that every unique perspective on life deserves to be shared, especially in a world where injustice still persists, and humanity continues to grapple with its challenges. In the end, life's measure is not in the volume of our words or the scale of our accomplishments, but in the depth of our convictions and the sincerity of our actions. As I commit these reflections to paper, I am grateful for the journey that has brought me to this juncture, and eagerly anticipate the unwritten chapters yet to unfold.
