ABBEY'S BOOKSELLER PICK ----- Because I work in a bookshop I can wander around like 'Lord Book' and pick up a book and have a quick dip, just to see what it's like (but of course, you too can do this when browsing at Abbey's). I did that with Nikki Gemmell's very candid memoir here. I'll also confess to not having read her novels, but that will change after reading this (her fans are legion and I may be about to join them). The writing here is wonderfully alluring, writing in these early pages about her impending wedding - so young, so full of hope, everything booked - before Mr Right announces he is Mr Wrong. The focus here though is on the woman within, tapping into her vision of herself and her capabilities, to emerge more fully formed. Craig Kirchner

Dissolve is a deeply personal, profoundly intimate reflection on love and female creativity in a man's world, and what happens when it all collides. Having lived through the humiliation and bewildering complexity of a time of failure, Nikki Gemmell eventually resurfaced. Decades later she has written a meditation on women's lives and creative desires.

This is a conversation. A conversation with the beautiful young women of her teenage daughter's generation, and of course with men. With husbands and male artists.

Dissolve is a hopeful, exhilarating book about women finding their voice.
