What possible relevance does the book of Exodus have to me?

You've probably never seen a burning bush, have never parted your bathwater and walked through the middle or have never been to Mount Sinai, let alone heard God speaking from thunder on the top of it.

This book unpacks the message and meaning of the book of Exodus. In the authors' own words, 'We want to share with you why we think it means what it does, how we came to our understanding of the verses, what discoveries we made. Rather than a Hollywood movie, this is going to be more like the how-they-made-the-movie footage.' Discover the message of this Old Testament book using tools which help you 'dig deeper'.

The Dig Deeper books are a cross between a sermon (but showing a bit more of the preacher's work behind the scenes), a commentary (but often more humorous than that) and an interactive workbook (there are a few 'over to you' moments). Each book uses the same set of 'tools' - context, structure, repetition, Bible timeline and so on - that will train you in how to read the Bible better for yourself. The Dig Deeper books invite you to read the Bible well with a range of tools. Find out more here: https://digdeeper.tools

Reviews for Dig Deeper into Exodus

'At first glance, you may think this is a curious book: not a commentary, yet containing some great insights into the book of Exodus; not a devotional tool, yet a robust and challenging exposition of the chapters; not a book about technique, yet by applying the Dig Deeper tools it provides a model of how the Bible should be read and understood; not a homiletic manual, yet gold for a preacher or Bible study leader in almost any setting.'--Adrian Reynolds, Director of National Ministries, FIEC 'Dig Deeper into Exodus takes the 'tools of the Bible-handling trade' out of the toolbox and shows us how to put them to effective use in the book of Exodus. Succinct, accessible, practical and always text-driven, the authors help the Bible teacher plot a straight course through this foundational Bible book. Dig Deeper into Exodus is an excellent resource that should be on every church bookstall and in the hand of every small group leader.'--Reuben Hunter, Assistant Minister, IPC Ealing 'Dig Deeper into Mark is gold! It's a resource that will introduce even the newest Bible reader to thinking deeply about the message of the Bible. In using a kit of Bible reading tools to the book of Exodus, it demonstrates how a careful handling of the Bible is far more compelling than the shortcuts. I'm looking forward to introducing it to all our Bible study programmes.'--Nick Duke, Pastor, Campus Church, University of Canterbury, New Zealand 'Exodus is central to our understanding and experience of salvation, and Dig Deeper into Exodus shows us how we can mine the treasure from the book. The writing is engaging and lively, and introduces us to the God of the Exodus with great enthusiasm. Read this book to develop your confidence in handling God's word - but more than that, read this book to be blown away by the God who rescues his people from slavery.'--Anna McCracken works for a charity, and is a member of Christ Church 'For those Christians who find the Old Testament to be a complete and unfathomable mystery (and there are many of them!), here is the book you need to read to get back into the first and major part of God's word! Focusing on the book of Exodus, Andrew and Richard not only unpack the text clearly, but also explain the tools need to understand the Old Testament and to apply it to twenty-first-century life. This is a great book for everyone wanting to 'dig deep' into the Scriptures in order to see how it speaks to their lives today.'--Dr Jamie Grant, Vice Principal, Highland Theological College UHI 'When I decided to study Exodus with our students this year, I was left scratching my head for a student (not to mention student-worker) friendly resource, until I came across Dig Deeper into Exodus. Its genius is that it doesn't just spoon-feed you the 'right' answers, but step by step shows you how - with humility, prayer and a little hard work - you can find the answers for yourself and experience the joy of hearing God speak through this fantastic part of the Bible. The 'student-friendly' style, stretching study questions and numerous worked examples - including some of the authors' false turns to learn from - will give students the tools and the confidence to mine the depths not just of Exodus but the rest of the Bible too.'--Ben Mandley, Associate Minsiter, Inspire St James Clerkenwell 'With a light-hearted and personal touch, the authors provide an engaging study guide to the book of Exodus. Encouraging contemporary readers to grapple with this extraordinary account of God's rescue of exploited migrant workers, they offer practical advice on how best to discern the ever-relevant message of this important Old Testament book. For anyone keen to discover God's word afresh, here is an excellent starting point.'--T. D. Alexander, Senior Lecturer in Biblical Studies, Union Theological College, Belfast
