A succinct, single-authored text and atlas of bone marrow pathology, this book is based on over 10,000 bone marrow biopsies. Divided into seven sections, it covers indications and techniques for biopsy, normal findings, and bone marrow alterations in specific neoplastic and non-neoplastic disorders and other diseases. The author approaches the practical problems and pitfalls in making particular types of diagnoses. The volume is lavishly illustrated with over 300 full-color photographs. The emphasis has been placed on the histologic interpretation of the bone marrow core biopsy, but the histopathologic findings have been integrated with clinical and laboratory features, as well as with peripheral blood and bone marrow aspiration morphology. Morphology is, in fact, accorded special attention in this book, since it remains the gold standard for many hematologic diagnoses and is the appropriate point of departure for more complex diagnostic investigations. More advanced immunologic and molecular techniques are not overlooked, however, and a discussion of these newer techniques is incorporated in the analysis throughout the text. Written as an introduction and guide to the interpretation of the bone marrow biopsy, this volume is intended primarily for pathologists and pathologists-in-training, but may also be used successfully by hematologists and oncologist who perform bone marrow biopsies.
