Williams, James R.
After thirty five years spent travelling to Spain and writing about it, the author finds that a holiday in Frailes, a village in a beautiful and isolated area of southern Spain, is a life-changing experience. Destiny seems to have brought him to a 'strange and magical' place, where the inhabitants are genuine, generous and kind, sharing their lives freely with him. As he begins to regard Frailes as home, he learns about the myths and the seasonal realities of the area and forms strong and lasting friendships. He becomes involved in some grandiose plans for the village, buys a house there, and even helps to end a drought. Loath to add to what he sees as an over-subscribed genre, Michael Jacobs shows us a community seen through the eyes of an articulate and knowledgeable writer; his involvement and association with Frailes may contribute to its survival.
