Joe Fitzgerald has dedicated over 25 years to the field of traffic safety, rising through the ranks of the Wilmington Police Department to become a Sergeant in 2010. As a traffic crash reconstructionist, he investigated serious injury and fatal crashes, providing critical insights that often led to expert testimony in various areas including vehicle speed determination, drug and alcohol impaired driving, and standardized field sobriety testing. For over a decade, Joe has run the Southeastern Driver Training Center and has developed a defensive driving curriculum that has spread throughout the country. Joe currently serves as President of the National Crash Prevention Program. Ben David dedicated over 25 years to prosecuting crime, including serving as the elected District Attorney for New Hanover and Pender Counties from 2004 to 2024. During his tenure, Ben oversaw the creation and running of administrative traffic courts, efficiently resolving hundreds of cases in a single court session every week. These courts have been replicated in all 100 counties of North Carolina. He is a certified law enforcement instructor and is an adjunct faculty member at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. He has served as lead trial attorney on several precedent-setting vehicular homicide cases and is a published author and highly sought-after speaker on traffic safety issues. Ben currently serves as Chief Legal Counsel of the National Crash Prevention Program.
