Mary E. Lowd is a prolific science-fiction and furry writer in Oregon. She lives in a crashed spaceship, disguised as a house and hidden behind a rose garden, with an extensive menagerie of animals, some real and some imaginary. She spends the majority of her time pretending animals can talk and writing stories about them.Mary started her first novel at the age of eleven; it bore a striking resemblance to Brian Jacques' Redwall, replete with little woodland animals eating feasts and battling each other with swords. Her next abandoned novel had more in common with The Pride of Chanur by C.J. Cherryh, featuring first contact with a race of space-faring feline aliens. Her first finished novel was Otters In Space. The Otters In Space series (and its spin-off In a Dog's World) are the inevitable culmination of a childhood spent watching Star Trek: The Next Generation and Lady and the Tramp. In addition to her novels, more than 200 of Mary's short stories have been published. Her work has won three Ursa Major Awards, four Cóyotl Awards, and ten Leo Literary Awards. She's also the founder and editor of Zooscape. Learn more at www.marylowd.com.
