A drifter named Lev shows up in the magic-fueled metropolis known as Old York City and immediately finds himself smack-dab in the middle of a battle between two magic gangs: Old York’s Red Double X’s and Chicago’s Chi-City Conglomerate.

Lev doesn’t love magic, but it’s not like he has much of a choice. Because he’s been thrust into a world of fortune tellers, battle mages, and great big mythological beasts. If he wants to survive he’s going to have to keep his wits about him… and extra rounds in his gun belt.

Cities of Magick is a five-issue fantasy-infused, bullet-ridden Western about the secret truth of the universe, the magic beneath the streets of our cities, and a young man coming to grips with who… or what he really is.

"Jakob Free (Writer): Jakob Free got his start in comics as an intern at Marvel Entertainment and then later as a full-time employee in something called the ""sales communication"" department (he still doesn't know what that means). He stuck around for a few years before striking out on his own to create the comics he wanted to see on the shelves of his favorite New York comic shops like Jim Hanley's Universe and Forbidden Planet. Jakob has self-published books like The Cycle, Suburban & Chickenhawk, and Rabbit Hole. A science-fiction comic book of his called The Number Game (with Mark Pearce) was published in Iron Circus' New World Anthology in 2015. Cities of Magick is his first series with a publisher. Jakob holds a bachelor's degree in English Literature and a master's in Game Design. He hates bananas. Will Tempest (Artist): Will Tempest is an illustrator and cartoonist based in the UK. His work explores strange planets and bizarre civilizations through the lens of fantasy, science fiction, and horror."

Reviews for Cities of Magick

This feels like the start of something really interesting. There is a bit of a wild west feel tacked onto a culture that is 'steampunk but with magic instead of steam.' Cities of Magick has big ideas, fun characters, and looks spectacular! --Dan Newland Comic Book Yeti A smart, inventive take that starts with the end of the world and throws you head first into what comes NEXT! This is humanity after a paradigm shift, gripping in what we leave behind, and even more so in what we can't give up. Check it out! --Steve Orlando Writer of Martian Manhunter for DC Comics CITIES OF MAGICK by Jakob Free and Will Tempest is the jaw-dropping grungy fantasy book your body needs. I've read it and it's well worth your time and your shillings. --Alex Paknadel Writer of Death of Doctor Strange: The Avengers from Marvel Comics Enjoyed it immensely! It's a post-apocalyptic Gangs of New York meets Lord of the Rings! The unnamed main character (shades of Eastwood's Man With No Name!) is a reluctant hero in the very best way possible. --Karl Kesel Writer of Superboy for DC Comics
