In Christianity for Doubters, mathematician Granville Sewell looks at a series of issues that cause Christians to doubt. In the first two chapters he shows, even more convincingly in this updated second edition, that modern science is not close to explaining how the unintelligent laws of Nature alone could have produced intelligent humans and is in fact uncovering abundant evidence for design in the origin and development of life on Earth, and even in the laws of Nature themselves. But while there is no shortage of evidence that God exists, why is it sometimes so hard to see evidence that he cares about people, and why does he remain backstage, hidden from view, working behind the scenes while people act out their parts in the human drama? Although these theological problems are more difficult, the author shows that some of the most important insights into both the scientific and theological questions can be made by applying a little common sense, without relying on ideas that can only be understood by the """"experts.""""

Reviews for Christianity for Doubters, Second Edition

""If non-believers could learn about Christianity from this book, there would be a lot more believers in the world."" -Tom Nagle, United Methodist Pastor, Retired, El Paso, Texas ""Granville Sewell has written a very well informed and personal book about his Christian faith. He makes a strong and pedagogical case for Intelligent Design, gives a wonderful portrait of Jesus, and has a very honest and touching input to the problem of evil. Although I differ from Granville in some details . . . I still highly recommend Christianity for Doubters. This is no doubt a book that many doubters will embrace. It is my prayer that many who read it will accept Jesus into their lives and become Christians."" -Ola Hössjer, Professor of Mathematical Statistics, Stockholm University ""As Sewell shows, Christianity has its beginning and end in the beautiful, courageous, giving, and forgiving person of Jesus Christ, God incarnate. If one allows oneself to meet and fall in love with this most compelling of historical figures, remaining questions can be sorted out with patience and humility."" -Jonathan Witt, co-author of A Meaningful World: How the Arts and Sciences Reveal the Genius of Nature ""If non-believers could learn about Christianity from this book, there would be a lot more believers in the world."" -Tom Nagle, United Methodist pastor (retired), El Paso, Texas ""If you think a book on Christian evidence written by a PhD mathematician must be dry and soulless, think again. Granville Sewell does marshal his sharp intellect in making a case for a cosmic designer of life and the universe, but he writes in a style that is both lively and personable. And when he turns to the case for the God of Christianity, and for Jesus as the crucified and resurrected son of God, Sewell's voice is more than personable; it is heartfelt and at times deeply personal. ""While I differ with Sewell on some of the ways he understands God and Scripture, I am persuaded that this book will prove salutary to many a reader who has always held Christianity at arm's length under the impression that there was only one way that thoughtful and committed Christians can understand God's just nature and his relationship to sinners and suffering in the world. Christianity for Doubters accomplishes many things, but if it did nothing more than awaken doubters to some of the variety of thought among faithful Christians on the subjects of suffering and salvation, it would be worth the price of admission. As Sewell shows, Christianity has its beginning and end in the beautiful, courageous, giving, and forgiving person of Jesus Christ, God incarnate. If one allows oneself to meet and fall in love with this most compelling of historical figures, remaining questions can be sorted out with patience and humility."" -Jonathan Witt, co-author of A Meaningful World: How the Arts and Sciences Reveal the Genius of Nature ""Granville Sewell has written a very well informed and personal book about his Christian faith. He makes a strong and pedagogical case for Intelligent Design, gives a wonderful portrait of Jesus, and has a very honest and touching input to the problem of evil. Although I differ from Granville in some details (I believe in the inerrancy of the Bible, that the world is young, that Adam and Eve were real and that God initially created a world without suffering and death), I still highly recommend Christianity for Doubters. This is no doubt a book that many doubters will embrace. It is my prayer that many who read it will accept Jesus into their lives and become Christians."" -Ola Hössjer, Professor of Mathematical Statistic
