Dr. Brooke Bussard graduated from the University of Virginia (UVA) College of Arts & Sciences and the UVA School of Medicine. She is a sought-after speaker, founder of Plants Over Animals, and the author of Chew On This: Bite-Sized Stories about Nutrition. A health educator and fitness specialist, Dr. Bussard is a member of The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine and the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. Dr. Bussard teaches people how to eat a plant-based diet in order to prevent and reverse heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and other chronic conditions. Brooke thrives on watching her clients transition from confused consumers to empowered eaters. After leaving her residency in Internal Medicine, Brooke realized her passion was prevention rather than the traditional prescription model. As a personal trainer and fitness nutrition specialist with the American Council on Exercise, she began seeing the tremendous impact nutrition has on overall health. Now, Brooke's focus is to help others reconsider how they achieve health. A dietary lifestyle based on fruits, vegetables, grains, and legumes creates increased energy, clearer skin, better digestion, and more. She helps people understand that weight loss and maintenance do not require calorie counting and food restriction. Dr. Bussard's website, Plants Over Animals, provides guidance, resources, and recipes while helping the reader understand the impact of food choices on health, animals, and the environment.
