In the ancestral environment-the living circumstances of our forebears a million years ago on the savanna of Africa-humans were focused on the day-to-day struggle for survival. Dean has a BA and MA in Economics, and a certificate in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Cal State LA, an MA in Psychology from LAPU, and a certificate in Addiction Studies from Glendale Community College. He receives treatment for schizo-affective disorder, and until recently, also sleep apnea. Dean is amazed by how much smarter he got since they removed the polyp obstructing his nasal passages and he can now get a good night's sleep and maintain a steady circadian rhythm. Dean lives in a community among people with similar disabilities in Los Angeles, California.
