For centuries, men and women have worn fake hair-wigs, weaves, and extensions. At first it was mostly for the rich and elite, but something shifted in the 1950s when modern weave techniques were introduced. Hair could now be sewn onto cornrows, creating a more permanent look. And from there, it spread like wildfire across the world.

But somewhere along the way, many Black women became bound by the pressure of society-by the lie that straighter hair was somehow ""better,"" ""more professional,"" ""more beautiful,"" or more acceptable.

Hollywood pushed it.

Television pushed it.

Culture pushed it.

And slowly, generations of Black women were taught to hide the very crown God gave them.

Even at a young age, I felt it. Teachers preferred a certain type of hair. Society celebrated a certain texture. And little by little, the message became clear: your natural hair is not enough.

So when I stepped into college and the workplace, I joined the bandwagon too. I hid my natural hair because I believed the lie that my short, coarse, kinky hair wasn't beautiful.

But the Holy Ghost began to deal with me.

Why are we hiding what God created?

Why are we covering the very crown Heaven gave us?

Why are we spending years trying to look accepted by a world that rejected the way God made us?

This is bigger than hair. This is identity. This is freedom. This is healing. This is unlearning generations of shame.

So this is my message to every Black woman:

You do not have to hide to be beautiful.

You do not have to straighten yourself to be accepted.

You do not have to wear another identity to feel worthy.

God did not make a mistake when He created you.

Your hair is not a burden. Your hair is not ""less than."" Your hair is your crown.

And maybe the real freedom begins the moment you stop hiding what Heaven already called beautiful. uncover each pages covers the facts.
