ABBEY'S BOOKSELLER PICK ----- Laman is an award-winning photographer who has spent his life documenting birds, and in this book shares his favourite shots. Divided into eight regions from around the world, the text is interesting and concise but it is understandably the photos that make this large book special. He portrays the birds as integral parts of their environments - the tiny jewels of hummingbirds in vast jungles, the majestic albatrosses of polar seas, an African vulture who blends with the gnarled trees of the savannah, and much more. The Australian section contains glowing images of common birds such as galahs and endangered ones like palm cockatoos, capturing character and place beautifully. A book for any naturalist or birder!
