Biological processes and techniques for waste processing and management

Biological Processes and Techniques in Zero Waste Management covers the many biological aspects that can be utilized for the treatment and management of waste generated from various industries to achieve zero waste. Diverse studies from around the world demonstrate the scalability of these approaches.

Techniques for the treatment of industrial, plastic, electronic, and nuclear waste are discussed in dedicated chapters. The book also includes advanced tools and technologies in biotechnology and bioengineering for the treatment of waste, along with a discussion on guidelines, regulations, policies, and laws for zero waste treatment and management.

In Biological Processes and Techniques in Zero Waste Management, readers will find information on:

Ways that traditional disposal practices such as landfilling, open dumping, and incineration contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, resource depletion, and ecological degradation

Strategies to minimize waste generation as well as recover, recycle, and repurpose materials in ways that create environmental, economic, and social value New approaches to product design, consumption patterns, supply chains, and waste management infrastructures How bioconversion, thermochemical processing, chemical recycling, and advanced separation technologies can convert waste into biofuels, bioplastics, fertilizers, renewable energy, and high-value chemicals Microbial valorization of organic waste and bio-based industrial raw materials

Biological Processes and Techniques in Zero Waste Management is an essential resource for researchers, engineers, policymakers, entrepreneurs, educators, and community leaders seeking to advance scientific understanding, design policy interventions, and implement practical waste-to-resource projects.
