Berlin Deko is the first comprehensive English-lan-guage overview of German and Central European furniture design of the early 20th century. Various essays and numerous illustrations show that there was no direct linear development of style between Jugendstil and Bauhaus. With a special focus on the period between 1910 and 1930, a diverse continuum of styles is revealed, including the previously overlooked 'Expressionist Rococo', which flourished in Berlin at the time.

The book highlights Berlin's role as a center for fur-niture and interior design that attracted international artists. Key figures such as Leo Nachtlicht, Oskar Kaufmann, Bruno Paul, Jean Krmer, Fritz August Breuhaus de Groot, Paul Thiersch, Emil Fahrenkamp, Eduard Pfeiffer, and Lajos Kozma played important roles.

Berlin Deko reexamines and celebrates Berlin's le-gacy as a creative center, revealing a richer, more nuanced narrative of German design history. One that celebrates diversity, individual expression, and the enduring influence of Berlin as a creative hub.
