Katherine Rybak has been a hard of hearing person since birth and founder of Hearing Out Loud(R). Hearing Out Loud's mission is to move people forward in their lives as strong self-advocates who celebrate their identity, embrace technology, and confidently implement strategies to make meaningful connections within their community. Katherine is a newly retired Teacher for the d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing, has earned her master's degree in education and is a National Board Certified Teacher. Katherine and her wife Carol have 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren. They live in their dream house on a little corner of Madison, Wisconsin. Katherine enjoys exploring her creativity in her upstairs writing/sewing studio, a walk in the sunshine with any of her 3 daughters, and playing on the floor with her grandchildren.
Becoming Hearing Empowered is EXACTLY the wonderful resource I had been seeking following sudden single-sided deafness 3 years ago. It is like sitting with a caring friend who is helping you understand your hearing loss with your mind, body and spirit. Beautifully designed, the format welcomes you to explore in a kinesthetic and deeply personal way. I learned from books that others wrote about their hearing loss journey but Katherine's book invited me to consider and express MY journey.
