Stephanie Cristello is a contemporary art critic and curator based in Chicago. Her research is motivated by contemporary works that interrogate how language, text, and the use of poetic devices influence and shape the cultural and historical structures that surround us. Her recent books are Sustainable Societies for the Future (Motto / Malmö Art Museum, 2021) and Theodora Allen: Saturnine (Motto / Kunsthal Aarhus, 2020).
These artworks--the old ones and the new--do not easily fit the prescribed, process-obsessed descriptions so often found in writings about Kasten. But they're certainly not anomalies either. That these non-photographic creations haven't been seen as much is, for Cristello, a question not of quality, but support.--Taylor Dafoe ""Artnet""
