What happens when the art you have practised for twenty years is taken from you overnight?

After radical cancer surgery and a life-changing complication that permanently altered his mobility, S Y Kelake BSc (Hons) - a Tang Sou Dao martial artist of twenty years - had to learn to walk again. Years later, he discovered Bajiquan: an art that did not ask him to be what he was, but to work with what he had.

Bajiquan Unveiled is a comprehensive introduction to one of China's most powerful martial arts - its explosive techniques, deep philosophy, rich history, and remarkable relevance to any practitioner at any stage of life. Written with warmth, honesty, and hard-won insight, this book covers:

- The legendary origins of Bajiquan and its companion art, Pigua Zhang

- The philosophy of explosive power, rooting, and the return to centre

- Techniques, forms, training tools, and mental discipline

- Health benefits, Traditional Chinese Medicine integration, and wellness

- A deeply personal account of finding an art that adapts with you

Whether you are a seasoned martial artist or discovering Chinese martial arts for the first time, Bajiquan Unveiled offers both the depth of a serious study and the warmth of a personal journey. The art meets you where you are.

S Y Kelake BSc (Hons) S Y Kelake is a Shifu in Chinese Gong Fu and a martial arts practitioner and teacher of more than thirty years. He is a father, a student of Forensic Psychology and Psychological Studies, a publisher, a journalist, a masseur, a yoga practitioner, a meditator, and a man who has lived long enough with difficulty to know that wisdom is not something you acquire - it is something you slowly recover. He was born with an autistic mind that processes the world with unusual directness - a quality he has come to regard not as deficit but as gift, sharpening his capacity to read people and situations with a clarity that formal education took years to catch up with. He came late to academic study but carried its questions for decades before he knew their names. His work sits at the intersection of ancient wisdom and contemporary understanding - drawing from Chinese martial philosophy, the hermetic traditions, forensic psychology, and the hard-won knowledge of a life examined honestly and lived fully. Following a terminal cancer diagnosis, treatment, and recovery, he chose to spend whatever time remained doing what he had always intended: sharing what he had learned, in whatever form it could take, with whoever needed it. The Seeking That Which Was Lost series is the result of that commitment - a twelve-volume conversation about what modern life has lost from the great teachings of humanity, and what becomes possible when we begin to recover it.
