AUTOBIOGRAPHYREAL DAELAuthor Recent Biographyby Dael FreemanNo big deal. It's just a bio for the World Wide Web. Introducing myself with recent personal history gives a reader a clue of who, what, when and where. April 24, 2025 has been filled with promising signs of personal and professional forward momentum.Austin, Texas was my home from 2010 to 2024. I began receiving Social Security Disability ten years ago in 2014. This income gave financial security. It allowed me to return a little common sense. I decided to quit drinking again. Sober living was not new. This time I had an AA meeting place less than a ten minute walk away. The Cherry Creek Group had four meetings daily seven days a week. The group had over 100 members. I became a regular meeting goer attendee. In 2016, I starting writing the book that became Awareness Recovery: Planning Your Exit Strategy for Life After Rehab.Being without a PC did not deter my mission to write a book for people striving for sobriety. I used the Austin City Small Business office, a city public library and the Austin Community College Library on Stassney Lane. These locations and Cherry Creek AA were all a short walk from my Manchaca Road apartment residence.I self published the book in April 2019 through Book Fuel in Colorado. They saw the project through to retail distribution on Amazon.I began trying to market the book alone and woefully ignorant of book marketing in the age of Internet.May through October saw me fumbling through antiquated promotion strategies.I had no idea that I had no idea what was possible online. My blind blissful exuberant marketing momentum was suddenly halted and ceased in November 2019.I answered my father's phone call on my home landline. My dad said my mom had died the previous night in a hospital alone. It was middle of November. One day a few days later I bought a pint of vodka. One day a few days later I stopped finding my AA meetings. One day a few days later it was Christmas and marketing a book about sober living was a memory.Drinking alcohol by January 2020 was a vodka fifth every 30 hours.Knowing my father could not live without my mother, I moved to Albuquerque to be with in his final weeks.Dad was hospitalized and undergoing chemotherapy. I took a motel room in walking distance tothe Lovelace. February 24, I kissed my father's forehead on his 90th birthday. We spoke gently about nothing serious in those ICU inpatient weeks. My father died March 10, 2020.Nowadays, I know I was unknowingly traumatized for months that winter. I had completely quit marketing Awareness Recovery. I spent months in bank and real estate and insurance and liquor store hell.I did most of this in Austin. My only friend then was a married enabling girlfriend. She vanished on her 59th birthday. Two weeks passed and I didn't see her. One day in middle of June her son called. He told me his mother had died of a drug overdose by smoking fentanyl crack cocaine.Lots happened after that I do not remember. One month I moved to Houston. Soon I drank a fifth of vodka daily for three months until October 22, 2023.That day I was hospitalized following an out of mind alcohol withdrawal seizure. I recall two days lying on the apartment floor incapable of getting even to my knees.A year later, three months sober, I remembered Awareness Recovery. it was available still on Amazon.I began marketing and promotion in October 20. Awareness Recovery was on Amazon waiting to be discovered by a recovering substance abuser. Now, I am over six months into marketing the 21st century style: online. Wish me luck.
