Shihab al-Din Abu Hafs Umar ibn Muhammad al-Suhrawardi (c. 1145-1234) was a highly influential Persian Sufi master, diplomat, and scholar who formally established and expanded the Suhrawardiyya Sufi order founded by his uncle, Abu al-Najib al-Suhrawardi. Known for interfacing with political authorities in Baghdad and systematizing Sufi practices in his famous work *Awarif al-Ma'arif, he became a leading figure in Sunni Islam, bridging mysticism with orthodox theology and spreading Sufi teachings widely.
