This edition incorporates knowledge on Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), covering topics in diagnosis, associated disorders and treatment, as well as ADHD in adults. Providing a broad overview of the continuum of neurobiologically based disorders, the book discusses disorders believed to be comorbid with ADHD, including specific learning disorders, anxiety disorders, depression, anger regulation problems, obsessive compulsive disorder and Tic disorders. The author emphasizes that ADHD is a life disability that affects not only school performance but also family life, peer interactions and successful participation in sports and other activities. For about 50 per cent of the individuals with this disorder, it is also a lifetime disability - thus interventions must be considered for each phase of life. Addressing day-to-day management issues faced by physicians and mental health professionals who see patients with ADHD, this ""how to"" guidebook discusses such practical concerns as how to make a differential diagnosis, work with the school system as well as new and contraversial therapies, this book should be useful for all those who care for individuals with ADHD.

Reviews for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: A Clinical Guide to Diagnosis and Treatment for Health and Mental Health Professionals

It should be a standard text in staff rooms of schools and in relevant clinics and general medical practices across the world, with a relevant section on that country's law. Larry B. Silver's book is on the whole a useful edition to the growing literature that is available on ADHD. -- Metapsychology Online Book Reviews , February 2005
