In the Land of Fire and Ice: Horses of Iceland is photographer and explorer Guadalupe Laiz's second book celebrating her love for Iceland, its people, and its horses. Laiz's intimate color and black-and-white images of the majestic Icelandic horses are pure poetry in motion.

In this follow up to Horses of Iceland (2019), Laiz widens her lens to not only capture the undeniable beauty of the horses in their natural habitat, but to showcase the rugged, harsh, and unpredictable environment that has shaped their character. Undertaking a more ambitious production, Laiz collaborated with local horse breeders and with Icelandic photographer, filmmaker, and artist Thrainn Kolbeinsson to capture the magnificent animals in iconic and breathtaking locations-from the famous Skógafoss blanketed with snow to the active Fagradalsfjall volcano; and galloping across beaches, frolicking amid glaciers, and with waterfalls, tundra, and fierce ocean backdrops. Kolbeinsson's powerful drone photography featured throughout the book showcases the aerial perspective of these epic landscapes that have shaped the horses of Iceland.

Laiz's photographs are testament to her passion for the Icelandic horse and wildlife photography. She shares this collection to reveal the beauty and importance of the remote corners of our planet and the unique animals that call it home.

In the Land of Fire and Ice: Horses of Iceland will be a superb addition for enthusiasts of wildlife photography, exploration travel, nature conservation, and anyone who admires the awe-inspiring beauty of Iceland and its horses.

AUTHOR: Guadalupe Laiz is an international artist, photographer, and explorer. Her passion for wildlife photography was sparked by a profound connection with the indigenous horses of Iceland, which ignited a pursuit of capturing the untamed spirit of animals in her photography. Laiz's first book, Horses of Iceland (2019), is being reprinted by The Images Publishing Group, which also published her second book, Among the Living, Where You Belong (2023) showcasing the magnificent wildlife photography taken by Laiz in Kenya, Namibia, Tanzania, Botswana, Rwanda, and Uganda over the course of six years.

Laiz's evocative imagery serves as a call to action, highlighting the urgent need for conservation efforts. Laiz has partnered with nonprofits involved with environmental issues, animal abuse, and human-animal conflicts in Africa, such as The Dian Fossey Foundation, Save Giraffes Now, and Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, as well as undertaken humanitarian work for 4africa in South Sudan and northern Uganda. Driven by the belief that art and beauty transform how people think about conservation and nature, Guadalupe focuses on the environment and animals that are pure and gentle by their very nature. Her desire is to communicate through art an awareness of animal abuse, environmental issues, and the importance of educating all generations on making conscious lifestyle decisions to protect our planet.

Reviews for In the Land of Fire and Ice: Horses of Iceland

aIn It's Only Temporary, Evan Handler confronts the ambiguities of life backward, forward, and in between. With hilarious honesty he reflects on the realization that we can start over again. It's Only Temporary is a heartfelt book for all of us who are getting younger and older at the same time.a
aAmy Tan, author of The Joy Luck Club, The Bonesetteras Daughter, and The Kitchen Godas Wife
aIn a series of wonderful essays, Evan Handler gives himself up to us - warts and all. To our amusement and bemusement we share in his emotional growth as he struggles to mature. I not only laughed along with him but felt that I too had grown a little along the way. Who could ask for more?a
aLewis Black, comedian, Daily Show correspondent, and author of Nothing's Sacred
aEvan Handler's new book is simply wonderful. He pulls you inside his life, and you come out his very close friend.a
aNeil Simon, Pulitzer Prize winning playwright/screenwriter of Lost In Yonkers, The Odd Couple, Brighton Beach Memoirs, and The Goodbye Girl
aEvan Handler is a man whoas looked into the abyss and laughed. His book, Itas Only Temporary, made me laugh along with him. He covers love, lust, showbiz, triumph, and despair a and he manages to be both funny and inspiring about all of it. Itas an important book that I think can help to spread goodness around the world. Something we desperately need.a
aLance Armstrong, seven time Tour de France Champion; Founder, The Lance Armstrong Foundation
aEvan Handler is not only a fine actor, heas a damn good writer. Itas Only Temporary is wise and funny and as righteously indignant as it is endearingly self-effacing. In what may be aliterary first, the book actually left me wanting more.a
aMeghan Daum, author of My Misspent Youth and The Quality of Life Report
aEvan Handler's unsparingly honest stories about life, love, and his own shortcomings are hilarious to read and oh, so easy (and fun!) to relate to. By the end you will be left with the surprising but unmistakable feelings of hope and redemption. Itas Only Temporary is truly an inspiration, particularly for anyone who's out there looking for love.a
aLiz Tuccillo, co-author of Heas Just Not That Into You
aChange is good - thatas the credo Evan Handler reinvigorates with the hard won wisdom of this hard luck story. Handleras prose style is disarmingly funny and smoothly conversational. He writes like a guy who's just happy to be here, and a little pissed off at you if you're not. As he has worked hard to shape himself into a good actor, life has shaped him into a good man. The cover photo is worth the price alone.a
aDavid Duchovny, actor, director, screenwriter
