Marty Short has spent a lifetime hunting and fishing, backpacking, horse packing, and just drifting in the mountains and steppes of the west, building a wealth of memories of wild places, adventures, and the people that shared them. Marty's fondness for the big landscapes and public lands of the west was heightened by many years spent traveling extensively to compete in high school, college and professional rodeo as a saddle bronc rider. A University of Wyoming graduate in agricultural economics, Marty has spent a 36-year career in the livestock feed and nutrition business working in sales, consulting and management. Marty and his wife, Billie are blessed with four adult children and a handful of grandchildren who are all actively pursuing their own adventures. He continues to spend as much time as he can in the back country with family, friends, and the indispensable help of good horses.
""Marty writes extraordinarily well, keeps it interesting, moving, and gives enough clues so that the reader can figure out what is coming-or the 'rest of the story'-feel good, and pat themselves on the back! He paints wonderfully effective visual word pictures that make the people and environments come alive. I really enjoy how each scenario ends, then moves to the following segment so seamlessly. As for hunters that read it, they can verify comfortably and say 'Yup, been there and done that!'"" ""It's a bit uncanny how so acutely close to home Marty has given scenarios that relate to different times and circumstances in my own life. I truly believe that we may have actually walked on each other's tracks-very possibly physically and, quite apparently, emotionally. It's mind boggling how close he is to telling some of 'my story'"". ""During all the years I spent working as an illustrator for Outdoor Life magazine, the NRA's American Hunter, etc., I first read an article in order to select a scenario out of it to do the illustration. As one would imagine, I've noticed that not all outdoor writers are the same level. Marty's book would be at the very top of a list-hands down!"" Leon Parson, SAA, Distinguished Wildlife Artist
