Ton Gloudemans studied Theatre, Film and Television Studies at Utrecht University from 1980 to 1984 and was the first student in the Netherlands to graduate with a thesis on animated film. From 1987 to 2001, he was editor of the Holland Animation Bulletin. Together with Piet Kroon, he was editor-in-chief of the programme ANIMATIE, which was broadcast by the NOS between 1989 and 1992. He has written many dozens of articles about Dutch animated films and filmmakers for newspapers, magazines, yearbooks and festival catalogues in the Netherlands and abroad, as well as several historical treatises on the subject. He also wrote two monographs, one on Gerrit van Dijk and one on Paul Driessen (the last one together with Marc Glassman). From 2002 to 2010, he was responsible for the Animation Concept Cooker, a masterclass offered by the Holland Animation Film Festival in collaboration with the Netherlands Film Fund. From 1993 to 1997 and from 2008 to 2012, he was animation advisor for the Netherlands Film Fund. From 1985 to 1993, he held a lectureship in Media, Culture and Education at Utrecht University. From 1993 to 2024, he held a position as lecturer, educational designer and IT-policy advisor at Inholland University of Applied Sciences and its predecessors.
